What causes the seat belt to retract slowly?

There are 2 types of coupe quattro seat belts. Standard and Procon10.

The reason for sluggish retraction is many fold. the belt could be frayed which is easy to spot. The spring could have become weak or the belt path is obstructing the free flow.

Mine is not brilliant and I feel that it is due to the spring having weakened. I would not reccomend playing with the system, I would just get a new belt and have done with it.

I think they are about £50 from specialists. Your life is not worth risking.
