UrS6 steering wheel to UrS4 conversion DIY pdf

This is for converting a UrS4/early UrS6 four spoke airbag steering wheel to a later UrS6 three spoke sport style air bag steering wheel. It is NOT necessary for the later style C4 A6 four spoke steering wheel - that should be plug and play.

There are three methods to convert the UrS6 clockspring to make it cancel the UrS4 signal lights. I have used Method 1. I developed Method 2 and did a conversion with that. I then developed Method 3 but ran out of steering wheels to convert so Steve Y. an American UrS enthusiast completed Method 3 and wrote up the DIY. He did a bit more work than absolutely necessary but it certainly works if you complete the conversion as described.

    See the pdf attached.

Enjoy (and be careful with the airbags).

IIRC, you don't need new leavers, just the UrS6 leaver knobs. I think you can get away with re-using the one on the left side.

I am confused. Everyone who has done this conversion on an UrS4 has used the top and bottom UrS6 (or C4 A6) steering column covers. Is there something about your UrS4 that this won't work? You do have to change the cancelling ring with slip ring (i.e. clock spring) from UrS4 to UrS6 (C4 A6) style (Item 2, 543 D below). Then there should be no problems with the UrS6 (C4 A6) steering column covers.

i think the steering collum is different in from a car with tilt leavers, the lower cover i can fit, but the top one doenst fit because there is not enough space, i seems to be the steering wheel is to close to the dash, i will look for a picture to make it clear

Not seen this before - nice one - bit risky with the old dremel if you botch it and ruin both wheels though - ouch - steady hand required !
