    AC and Recirc Switches.

    Hi guys,

had an issue with the S2 for a while now, decided its time to do something about it.

The two switches on the side of the heater controls, for the aircon and recirculation flap are not working, at all. The lights do not illuminate when pressed on either, the magnetic clutch does not engage on the aircon pump, and i cannot hear anything move or hear a change when the recirc is selected.

Any ideas? Id like to take the panel of so I can check the switches with a meter, but I dont know if thats possible, and if so how.

    any btdt?

    Cheers,

    Kieron.

I've just changed the bulbs behind the dials on the heater control... this morning but I didm't look to see if you can get access to the switches but heres how to take off the front panel to have a look...

Pull off all 3 dials with a pair of plyers, undo the two screws behind dial one & three, just a flat screwdriver to ease off the panel and thats it....

As I said i din't look any futher... It's only a five min job...

Cheers for that, i got the knobs and the front plate off but thats as far as Ive managed.

Theres 4 screws holding the white heater controls box in, ive removed those which has freed up the box a little, the 2 switches i'm after are on the right hand side of it. I cant get them off, it looks like they come out towards you, but they wont budge. Do i have to take out the whole frame which goes around the radio and the control panel to get them out?

Ill post up a pic later, hopefully it will make sense.

Thanks epic, but how do i get to that screw?

Ive attatched a pic of whats behind the front plate, ive removed all the screws circled red, the switch unit is in green.

Do I need to remove the whole frame(outlined yellow) to get the thing out?

How do i do that? I seems pretty well stuck in there at the mo....

          Cheers. Kieron.

Remove all the screws you have highlighted on the above photo.

Next, pull out the three heater vents and behind that you will see an additional two screws, remove these, now you will be able to pull the entire bracket which houses the switches, stereo, and heater controls.

Excellent, cheers Nuvo. Do the vents literally just pull out?

Job for tomorrow, its cold outside.

Yes, theya are a snap fit. You can either insert plastic wedge underneath to help pry them out without damaging the plastic. Alternative if you loop some insulated electrical wire through one of the lower bars on the vents and pull it to release it from its pivotal mounting point.

Sometimes you can just turn the vent fully to the left or right and grab the exposed lower corner with you hand and pull it up and out.

                  HTH.

The power for those switches routes through the F38, the ambient temperature sensor and S17 the heater fan motor fuse but I guess you'd notice if that had gone.

Check the ambient temperature sensor and warm it up with a hairdryer and see if the switches then illuminate.
