Putting 3 spoke Non Airbag to 1995 Airbag

As title really, removed my Airbag (4 spoke wheel) from 1995 B4 coupe, want to fit my Audi 80/coupe 3 spoke wheel and boss. Done a search on this but not sure of definative answers?

1/ Do i need to remove old slip ring (square type)? And use on new setup? If so how does it separate?

2/ As it is, splines seem the same, but the boss hits the shroud!

3/ Do i need to get another boss for this car (Anyone find the part numbers for momo, nardi, omp, etc?)

4/ I plan to use resistor to fool airbag lt, will 3 ohmn 1/2 watt do it?

    Many thanks in advance

to be honest, it is possible but not really worth the hassle, You will have to change the stalks etc iirc. You're better off sourcing a 3 spoke airbag wheel from an early A4 or from an S3.

Hi thanks for quick reply. I'd sooner not replace the stalks etc. But would like to fit this wheel. What benefit do the new stalks have? Do they contain slip ring for horn push or is this separate. Im sure the splines were the same? Unless i stand corrected?

Will have a closer look at making this work over next few days. Must be a way to use old square slip rings. Anyone else done this? Thanks for any help, really appreciate it.

Careful with airbag units, dont drop/bang/hit them and I'mnot sure of the wiring implications of using another wheel. Anyone know where the reserve cap is on these as a lot of 'other' euro cars of this age had them in the wheel with the trigger.

Remeber the airbag is an explosive device And an older renault steering wheel will go a good 40/50 feet if triggered face down

you would need the plastic schroud from a non airbag car. the steering wheel will not fit anyway, because the steering column is larger...

When you say wheel wont fit? You mean the steering boss ? I have the Nardi 3 spoke wheel which bolts to the hub boss. Im sure i had the wheel and boss on there and fits, but it fowled the original shroud, and has no slip ring for horn push. (Problem for me is car is at parents, so have to travel there to work on it!!) Next chance i get will look at resolving this issue.

Worst case scenario, i get different boss and wire horn separately. :mischeif:

Will post when resolved, thanks for replys, any further advice welcomed

Well fitted my wheel today, the existing audi coupe boss fits on splines, but rubbed shroud, so i just trimmed shroud back with dremmel neatly and going to wire in horn separately.... Easier than i thought.
