Instrument lights....

After seeing some pictures of other peoples s2's ive noticed that alot of peoples diff lock control panel is all lit up, with mine only the writing "diff" is lit up, is this right or should it all supposed to be lit up?

Also last night I was replacing some dead bulbs in the cluster and noticed that there are no bulbs to change for the exterior temp screen so im guessing that these are led's. Anyone know an easy fix for these or am i going to have to solder in new led's?

Our cars are way too old for any leds as original equipment

Diff display and temp display both use 12 volt bulbs which to replace you'll have to solder in new bulbs. Lots of posts on here about how to go about it, you can get the bulbs from Maplin amongst other places.

Cant remember which the diff lock unit has, think there the 3mm versions.

But note there's no need to remove the steering wheel to remove the instrument cluster.

Cheers mate, ordered the bulbs from maplin so ill have a go when they turn up!

right bulbs turned up this weekend so i had a go at fitting them tonight and got the temp display working and the 2 background bulbs for the difflock.... but.... the green light is still not lighting up. Is it supposed to be on all the time or only when the button is pushed as its getting a constant live so must be switched earth ive bridged the earth and I can get it to light up, anyone know when the little green light should be on on the diff display??

As you say, the green light (K46) has constant live and is switched to earth by the diff lock switch on the diff (F100). It isn't directly controlled by pushing in the diff lock button, it only comes on if the diff lock actually engages.

You need vacuum in the reservoir, i.e. engine runing for the actuator on the diff to pull in and close F100.

All the wiring diagrams are on S2central.net and the diff lock is sheet 31/1.
