    Changing the interior?

Just how hard is it to change the head cloth pillar trim etc, thinking of going for a colour change but not if it's a nightmare. Any ideas if it's worth the hassle?

Its not too bad, boot bits just prise off (clips holding them on) the side trims are mostly held in by the handles (screws under the grab part) and the sunvisors and if you have a sunroof control panel holds a lot of the headlining in. The actual headlining has a big sticky pad on the reverse which is a pain to remove but not the worst job.

Sounds like it might be worth the effort, thinking of changing to black head cloth, trim etc. The old cream one is filthy and a bit worn. Makes the interior look shabby.

                Things to watch out for:

The little plastic covers on the sunvisor mounts break easily use a flat blade screwdriver carefully and they eventually pop off.

The clips on the boot trim also break easily so take your time.

The headling can be a pain in the butt i found it came off easier if you use a heat gun to soften the glue, refix with spray on carpet adhesive.

                Goodluck!

In the process of doing this myself for the first time, as someone mentioned here already, them little plastic clips over the sunvisor hook/holders are right b***ards to get off without breaking the hook part. I broke 4 or 5 in a breakers yard just trying to get them off. The surviving ones i'm using are badly scratched from my clumsy prying. The trick is to go from the sides rather than the front so you don't knock the hook off.

They're the same shape in most VAG cars including some Seats, the ones I salvaged were a mix from Audi 80 and VW Passatt.

Tip for re-applying trim to the lining; spray from the middle-outwards and take extra care around the sunroof panel opening, can be hard to stick down properly round the nooks and crannies, and it wrinkles easily. Like mine has

No ones posted this awesome guide yet from Olly

                    using this product

                    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3M-Headlining-...69957877771685

Another tip, be careful when cleaning the old glue and foam from the lining-card as mine was easily damaged by brushing and has some pits and cratering on the surface which is a bit noticable underneath the new lining. Live and learn!

This gives you a chance to fix any nasty leaks while the car's stripped

Beside the fact that it might not be good for the mechanism,

I don't think there are many men that even want to sit down on a gearstick or anything similar

                            i know i won't

Yeah not ideal to do in a rainy october/november with no garage

Check thoroughly for leaks otherwise a few months down the line you'll be back to square one with mouldy green roof lining and smell to match.
