my rs2 oil temperature gauge flickers what could be making this happen?

Oil Temperature Sender PN
The oil temp sender is down on the front of the engine and is connected to the instrument cluster/gauge by one wire. I suspect that a) the sender is flakey or b) the wire connection at the sender is flakey or c) the wire connection at the instrument cluster/gauge is flakey or d) a trace on the instrument cluster (or separate gauge) is flakey.
