I posted up a wanted for a new screen for my trip computer a while ago but none were around, it does of course have the dreaded screen bleed, shame as it started out tiny but is getting worse, but the rest of the system works perfectly!!
All you need to do is fold back 4 tabs on the metal plate which holds the LCD in place with a pair of flat nose pliers. Then carefully lift the LCD out. Just be careful to ensure that the two little zebra strips on the rear of the LCD panel are in full contact with the copper terminals of the light box" when fitting the new one. Refitting as they say is the reversal of removal.
Surely if your getting one from another Audi it's easier to just swap the whole module across?
It's a shame the actual screens can't be split and refilled with Liquid crystal as that would solve the issue (which for those who don't know is caused by the seal failing at the edge of the 2 sheets of glass and air drying out the crystal inside, hence why it starts small and creeps.).
I'm very interested in this fix your working on though!!
