    urS4 / urS6 Adjustable steering column question

    My s6 has up & down, in & out adjustment? Was this standard for all C4 S cars.

    Background is I'd like to get a look at one of the adjustable ones from a later car with an airbag (if the airbag matters) and see if it can be fitted to an S2.

    No it wasn't standard on the C4s. My S4 hasn't got it.

        Thanks gents. Well if anybody is breaking an S6 with an adjustable column in it can I have it please? I'd also take any of the bits that are connected to it.

        Have you any at the moment Spink?

          Subscribing, been thinking about this for a while but not managed to compare the 2.

          I think my dads last a6 2.8 quattro (the one that came after the 100, and looked like it) had adjust as well, might open up sources.

          A guy on motorgeek put one in a cq recently, but said it was not plug and play. I think I saw one in a 4kq, but again fabbed.

          There are a few threads about it;

          I've been looking at pictures of the cars with tilt steering wheels and it looks like it might be a direct swap except for the key ignition and modifying the dash to work with the movable setup. This being said I was at the junk yard and should of looked to see if the plug wires match up. Has...

          This one has some comparison pics between small chassis and large

            As a data point, ALL 1992, 1993 and 1994 UrS4s that came into North America ALL have the adjustable (tilt/telescope) column. (and so did all the UrS6s).

              24v vr6T coupe quattro track monster I gotta that friends and fellow geekers Toph, Jim, and Ryan, for work already done on the car and work to come. So here is the plan for the coupe. It will be a 90%+ track car with the occasional fun run or test and tune on the street. The car is...

              I got dragged into this thread for 30 minutes. 1st page is somewhat relevant although they were also extending the column further into the cockpit.

              On another bit of information all the b5 passats and presumably most if not all the b5 A4's had adjustable columns.

              My local scrappie has a lot of those in stock.

                Does your s2 have procon-ten? if yes then i suspect you will have to rip it all out.

                  A few screen shots from kate to explore the mounting arrangements:

                  Audi Coupe quattro:

                  2 possible contenders:
                  VW B4 Passat:

                  Audi S6 C4:

                  3 that we could rule out for a preliminary:
                  Audi A3 1997:

                  Audi B5 A4:

                  Audi A8 1995:

                  C5 A6 is very similar to the A8 above.
                  Phaeton is the same.

                  The S6 must be our best bet really

                    No procon-ten here. That's another fly in the ointment. When did they finish with that system 1994?

                      What you planning on doing to mount it? Rework the bracket or make an adapter? What about the angle?

                      Another thought, not on the fly adjust but could the current bracket be extended down to allow the wheel to be dropped?

                          Andy,
                          I'm planning to put 2 side by side, take 'em apart and see if there's a way to put them back together. It'll involve straightening that angle but it has to be some sort of universal joint anyway.

                          @Spink pm coming your way
