Carpet out = pedals too high

Background (feel free to skip) -

I removed the carpet a couple of years ago, after the goldfish bowl, sorry coupe got a bit moist and the sound deadening started to smell a little... the removal of the sound deadening, under floor heating and carpet obviously dropped the point where your heels sit when pedalling the car. I've estimated this at 40-50mm, which was fine for me - I've got used to it over the years - but I recently let the missus drive the car and her size 5s weren't manly enough to make the difference up.

    Question -

I need something to lift the floor up 40-50mm and something that is stiff enough to act like the OE sound deadening. I could get some deadening material and build up the driver's side but just hough I'd see if there were any other options. I don't want to drill the floor but I guess I could doublesided tape an alloy footrest in place.

Possible to extend an ally panel forward on two "legs" from seat mounting holes, and maybe back from some other holes that pre-exist near the pedals? And have lots of holes cut to ensure you're not carrying extraneous material. Just thinking aloud here! But double sided tape sounds ok as long as you inspect it to ensure it's remaining bonded!

lol...the first signs of 'couple compromise' surfacing in the s2

think of all that extra weight and hassle when you get in and yours are in the wire mess under the dash

Andy's going to have to get some close-fitting racing boots ...if he doesn't already own a pair!

Is the Alpenwiess getting a recaro baby seat too?

Andy you could try getting some expanded neoprene and cut a piece out to fit in the floor pan in front of the seat. You can buy it in sheets, its pretty light and will be easy to cut and not rub, squeak or rattle etc

Get the missus to stick some neoprene to the heels of her (not) favourite shoes...?

Cheers for the link but 101 notes is getting a bit OTT Is it proper solid or a bit squishy?

Carpet offcuts are a lot cheaper

Ally foot rest is not a bad option for about 50 notes.

Found what appears to be the ideal material - under floor polystyrene insulation. It's very light, easily strong enough and cheap. I've got a panel here to play with, just a shame that it's a bit thick but I can make it fit easily enough. Brand name is Polyfoam xps.
