    Cleaning the headlining

Ive got hold of a complete, non saggy platinum headlining, cheers Kit! It could do with a good clean though.

Are there any tried and tested methods for cleaning the fabric, the plastic is self explainatory, but im worried if i try and clean the headliing that the fabric will come away? it still off the car so i can do it without killing my neck!

    Any help gratefully recieved!!

Sounds scary but a soft lint free rag with a little brake/part cleaner on, I use the TPS Quantum stuff, should bring it up a treat. Try it on a hidden area first to be sure of no adverse reactions. I've used it in the past on a avant headlining to remove oily finger prints and it works very well. Just don't go daft with the brake cleaner

EDIT- I was going to do it for you prior to collection but as you know I got delayed by that MX crash.

      Cleaning the headlining

A wet vac - just take it easy, don't saturate it or stress the fabric

That will also work very well. But as mentiond don't soak the fabric or press to hard.

Beauty of using brake cleaner is that it's a solvent for just about anything and evaporates very quickly so doesn't get as far as the foam backing as long as you go steady and take your time. Like I said, nice lint free cloth, I'd use a micro fibre one, just a splash of cleaner and it will be like wiping on new fabric.

I gave your method a go tonight kit. It's getting there!! I used what I had which was aerosol carb/brake cleaner. Sprayed it onto a lint free cloth and wiped gently. Seemed to get the worst of it off. I will try and get some better brake cleaner though!
          Cheers

The aerosol stuff is rubbish, you need proper brake/part cleaner in a 5L container, despite it's nature it's actually quite easy on rubber and delicate trim, as long as you don't soak it and rub the crap out of it.. Also panel wipe works just as well. Glad to hear it's working though, just take your time as you don't want to much of the solvent getting to the backing. May take a couple hours, but it will come up as new.

You could try getting the worst off with my method then give it a quick going over with a wet vac to finish off.

Sounds like a good suggestion, not ever used it myself.
