    leaky drivers door seal

Hmmm, have an odd leak from the rubber seal on the top of the drivers window. I have recently checked the seal to ensure it was seated properly which is wasn't but now should be. Water is coming in somewhere, and then dripping out (a fair bit) at the top of the a pillar and dropping straight into the door pocket.

Any ideas or BTDT's? I guess if all elese fails its a new seal but would prefer to locate the source of the leak and try a cheap and cheerfull fix first.

    Cheers,

    David

if its coming in and dripping down the glass, then thats just gonna need a good squirt with some silicon spray on the actual seal to see if it will expand the seal and shut off the gap. If like mine its coming in inside the seal and then dripping between the seal and the plastic interior trim, you have the same problem as me.

The other thing you can try doing is taking the door card out and adjusting the wedges inside the door which change the angle of the window slightly so it can clamp on the seal a little tighter. This will work in the interim but you will need a new seal eventually.

A new seal was £380 when I last looked.....

I would suggest that you look at the aluminium trim which the rubber seal sits in. I had a new screen fitted and they only used 7 rivets when there should have been 13!

The water was running down the back of the aluminium trin amd going inside the car ( between the rubber and the plastic) as you described David.

The only way to cure it is to remove the door seal, the aluminum trim, clean everything and use sealant between everywhere and rivet everything back in, long reach rivets are needed. The normal rivet gun won't work and youwill need to put a spacer between the rivet and the gun nozzle.

Dont think they are that much. Replaced the passenger door seal on mine last year and it was £110 from vagparts

@ David: Oh thats so the news i was looking for....not

£380 for a seal, is that the solid gold version? Why does Audi insist on shafting its owners in that way.....

Thanks for the advice, I will look at the alu trim as I think its coming through there. Out of interest how easy is it to bend it and fook it all up?

              Cheers,

David the ally trim is not fragile, you'd be unlucky to damage it.

I will assume that you have had a new screen at some time and it has been badly fitted as is likely with the age and mileage of most cars.

You will need to remove the door trim, drill out the old rivets from the screen trim. drill out the rivets from the alloy trim.

                  Clean everything in sight.

I used some windscreen sealant ( non setting) to 'gunge' everything up.

Since then it has been fine

I will try to find the size of the rivets and post the size.

Good luck and don't be a drip....
