Removing headlining

Anybody got a BTDT for removing the headlining (Avant) ? I need to get to the tailgate wiring as none of my tailgate electrics are working

Yep, just replaced the grey headlining in my Avant with a black one from an RS2. I will do a little BTDT tomorrow evening as I am shattered at the moment. You do not actually need to remove the headlining as all wires run down the D Pillar and not along the roof. Watch this space as I am half way through re-assembly and will run out to take some pics tomorrow night. Got a busy day tomorrow (today actually, as I have just noticed the time!). Off to bed now.

I bet the wires has broken off in the shut to the tailgate. common problem on many estate/hatchback cars. Most common one for doing it was 5 series BMW E34, had about 10 customers with the same problem. Cracking piece of design, NOT

Yes about 6 of the wires had broken inside the rubber grommet but I suspect they have broken further up aswell as I've repaired all bar one of the thicker heated rear window ones & the other stuff still doesn't work. Pictures would be good Lee. Cheers.

If you need the wiring diagram for the tailgate I can send you a copy. One of my customers needed them the other day for their (non S2) avant.

Pete, no pics yet I'm afraid. It has been very stormy here in Pembrokeshire. It hasn't stopped raining. I hope there is a break in the weather at the weekend. I now have the last piece of trim to allow me to reassemble following the change to black. I'll take pics in reverse as I reassemble.
