    LHD v RHD Interior questions

    Ok guys,

so at the weekend I bought si's car and it has the most gorgeous bespoke Green/Black RS2 leather interior...mmm

So the master plan is to take that interior out and install in LHD my pearl green avant, however as I knew there would be I do have a couple of issues:

firstly-doorcards. If I transplant the door cards from a RHD car to a LHD car there will be the issue of the holes for e/windows.Basically they will swap no problem but I will be left with a hole on the offside door card where the grab handles would normally go(e/w switch consol). So any ideas what to do with the hole? Are the leather parts of the cards interchangable? They look stiched in?

Secondly-seats.At present I have an electric drivers seat(non uk spec) I take it when I install the LHD seats into the RHD car the motors etc are not interchangable? Will LHD to RHD and visa versa seats swap over?

Thirdly-carpet. The LHD car is cream carpet,do we think it will look right with black/green seats over it?I would swap the carpet to black as I do have a spare but RHD to LHD wont swap over-due to heel rests etc

    Opinions greatly appreciated

When you say "I would swap the carpet to black as I do have a spare but RHD to LHD wont swap over-due to heel rests etc" you mean Rhd to LHD will swap but not all things in the correct way( foot rests), or just not possible to swap?¿

Im looking to swap a RHD 3b carpet into a LHD 3B car....

    Cheers!

Andy: I have a similar problem with the door cards. I have a RHD 80 Avant and I tried swapping LHD saloon door cards with wood trim over. It seems that you will have to cut the a piece of the NS door card, under the trim, in order for the window switch harness to fit. You can then take this same piece of the door card and affix it to the "hole in the OS door card". However, once you have done this you will need to find matching leather/vinyl material to cover the entire panel. Your other option is having two door handles with a full complement of door switches with only the fronts connected on the OS. I would show you pics buy my Avant is in another country at my vacation home.

Note that on the back side of the door cards Audi has already marked out the area which you will have to remove it is about 8cm by 4cm. Also, the leather is not stitched in it is pasted in on top of a 3mm layer of sponge foam.

nice one mario, that makes sense.i was thinking of somehow using a rear door card handle and putting that over the hole but probably wouldnt work as its a flat edge as opposed to the front handles rounded.

shame you couldnt re-use the cut out section of leather, but that too would look shocking

i am tempted to just swap the carpets over,i mean would it be so bad if the passenger side of the lhd had a foot rest?

I would just use the drivers handle trims on both sides, but use a switch panel with only front switches on the passenger side and wire them both to operate the passenger window. Keep it tidy

I have this problem with the leather trim in my coupe which seems to have come from a LHD car

For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

As far as Alex's suggestion, It was not too bad when I had it that way. Except you end up with two full set of switches. The mirror and rear door switches won't work because they are not wired in. I did not check to see if a coupe/cabby switch would look better.

a coupe panel with just the two switches in would be fine, wire the odd one up to something interesting and put something fun in the place of the mirror switch.
