What to replace if dash out??

From various changes of kit to the air con system and from good advice on this forum it seems I may well need to change the evaporator and/or low pressure switch to solve the non-functioning air con in my RS2.

So, that means at some point the dash will have to come out.

With this being a long and painful job I was then starting to think what else I should replace whilst there (bearing in mind the car is now 17 years young).

Aside from the heater matrix what would you all suggest??

    Cheers, Tom

    While you are in there...

I would replace the foam lining of the flaps of the heater matrix box along with the heater core. Inspect that the vacuum elements for flap control are not leaking off when a vacuum is applied & replace as necessary. Also, check out this Thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55406
    for water leak repairs.

Does anyone know where can one get foam / rubber to replace the disintegrating original foam on the edge of the heater box flaps ?

      Thanks for any ideas.

I've just bought matrix from Quattro Corner (thanks Pete) it came with foam strip now I know what it's for I have the pleasure of having to replace the matrix in the near future.
I found tape on ebay you could have a look it may be what you need.
        Good luck.

Nope that foam is like an anti-rattle strip to fit with the matrix, you will see when you pull the old one out

Heater marix is top of the list

but consider fitting any wiring or pipework you may need in the future to add say cruise control

fit new speakers to the crashpad if you're still on OEM ones

oil the heater fan motor bearings

and just to be clear for anyone else reading this, you don't have to remove the dash to replace the A/C low pressure switch and a leak in the evaporator is rare.

All good advice, cheers for that. I didn't realise the low pressure switch could be replaced without the dash coming out so also good to know.

I have heard that the evaporator rarely gets damaged or leaks so hopefully the issue is with the switch, I've got one of those on the way so let's see.

But if it is a dash out then I'll be following all recommendations on here.

                  Cheers

in all honesty taking dash out isn't too bad. did my brothers to change matrix in a day. we took our time and cleaned things as went. just wish i knew about bolts through bulk head before i started.

All the backlight bulbs if they haven't been done already including the outside temp display which is soldered in. Maplins do a suitable replacement.
