Finally getting sick of the lining dropping from the roof due to it being previously affected by a damp interior. Is it a case of getting shot of it and finding a replacement in decent shape or can you repair it?

for how much they cost second hand i can't see it worth the effort repairing.
yeah I think I'm going to try and retrim with alcantara once it warms up a bit
that changes the goalposts. if you want to re-trim with non-standard material you have no option.
if you want to keep it stock i can't see it worth the cost (however small) and the time/effort to get it looking decent. you can buy second hand ones relatively cheap.
Not sure i see the point in a second hand one that is 18+ years old and will soon if not already start delaminating. The foam between the fabric and the card starts to fail / age especially in cars that are out in the sun. It's the same in the door trims.
Not a difficult job to retrim - just a bit messy getting all the perished foam off the board especially in an Avant no sunroof here the roof board if impossible to remove.

all the ones on my cars are absolutely fine. no signs of peeling away at all.
it only becomes a problem when the interior has been wet or the headliner has soaked up moisture.
i just can't see it being worth the time/effort/cost for how much a good second hand one costs.
Andy I'm pleased your's are all fine. My headliner had never been wet or soaked up any moisture in the 15+ years i've had my Avant. Anyway problems with Headlinings and retrimming etc have been discussed before on the Forum several times so no need to go over it again

ive seen enough of them, good and bad. i'd still say its not worth the effort when you can buy a good one for peanuts in relative terms, with the emphasis on good.
if people want to go away from stock, thats a different matter.
I had a coupe and have an Avant and live in a dry country and my cars are taken care and had to retrim both because of perished foam and think it´s more to do with age + negative factors this foam as a life expectancy and than fails!
I have a black, no-sunroof coupe lining in very good condition (no peeling) and if any one is interested I´m open to offers!
