Hi, I took my RS2 to an upholstery repair guy today for a quote, my alcantara has seen better days on the seats and door cards, the leather is fine.
The guy recommended replacing the alcantara with leather, and he will also replace the door cards with a twin tone black and silver leather,
Is it sac religious to deviate from OEM?
Alcantara is a similar price to leather, the price and availability is not the issue. The problem with alcantara is that it wears out very quickly, it was never designed to be used as seat coverings
its your car, do what you want with it - we are all dust at the end of our lifetimes, so if you want to change it, do so and enjoy it.
I appreciate a well maintained classic but like homes, you dont live in it for someone else's perception of it. Everything we do to these cars is personal anyway.
Ahh lee your just like me, I would never change the interior for something Chavvy, I would keep the existing black and get it refurbed. I would replace all the alcantara with with a similar colour leather and retain the Recaro stitching, I also plan to do the door cards in twin tone leather with a contrasting double stich, I think it will look better than OEM, o and the leather he's going to use is from Bridges of Weir (Aston Martin leather )
RS2's are getting rarer and rarer, in Germany the most expensive one have a price of € 50.000,-. So the more original you keep it, the higher the price you'll get for it if you sell it. For a high performance car like the RS2, I think it's much better with alcantara than leather because you'll have the tendency to slide around more on leather than alcantara in the bends.
you might already know this, but if its bobbly, you can shave this off using a bic razor lightly on the surface.
I had a B6 S4 in Noggy with the blue Noggy Alcantara/Leather interior, it needed doing every so often and looked like new in no time... as long as you are CAREFUL!
