Original RS2 alcantara is at least 17 years old. Decent replacement will last the same or even longer

It's lasted, as in it's physically still there, but Alcantara will only look it's best for a couple of years, leather can potentially look good indefinitely

I disagree. But its your car do what you want.
I think you will find alcantara is more desirable (wish my RS2 had it).

Can I ask why Alcantara is used instead of Suede? Is it cheaper or is there some kind of safety aspect ect? Because it is really just fake suede isn't it?

Hmmm? well if Alcantara wears quickly does it not make sense to pay the extra and use Suede??

Alcantara is more expensive than suede. I paid much less for a good quality suede-immitation alcantara.

Alcantara is a artificial substitute for suede. Suede wearings faster.
I dont see why people are getting there panties in a bunch about alcantara, its a good hard wearing material. Like I said before RS2's are 18 years old now so wear has to be excepted. The leather in my RS2 is aging.

All subjective obviously, but I'd choose Alcantara over leather every time as its cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Plus you don't slide around on it like leather. The OEM Alcantara in our S4 still looks new after 8 years and 80k miles. Few manufacturers use genuine Alcantara as its expensive, more expensive than low end leather anyway. If its looked after it can last forever.

Whatever you choose though, we will need pics of your beautiful freshly trimmed RS

Looks like I'll be going for Alcantara then when I eventually re-upholster

Has he given you a quote for the door trim redoing? I got a silly quote up here in the north as apparently it was a difficult job to do and wouldn't like to take it up. Tonks is doing it for me now and it looks great from the pictures he has posted already

The quote for just doing the front seats in alcantara and painting the leather was £550,
The price for replacing the alcantara with leather and doing the door cards was £1000
