Just looking closer at mine, the screws aren't in the centre of the slots and they're not offset by the same amount in the same direction either

I can't tell where mine are, there's too much mastic in there

It's not sealing to the plastic trim that matters, it's sealing the screwthreads in the steel panel underneath that counts as the water drains along the steel channel and leaking around the threads of the self tappers through the steel is where the water gets in.

Originally there would be a washer under the large headed machine screw (mine was missing the washers), and then under the trim there would be a seal, which looks on the parts catalog to just be a rubber (I assume) washer.

If the seal does it's job, then all would be well, as the water wouldn't get to the threads of the bolt, but have to say mastic does a great job for sealing both the trim to the body and the screw to the threads.

              Part 33 on here: http://www.partscats.info/audi/en/?i...rent_id=536814

Mine was also missing the seals.... well safe to say I won't use that body shop again

I used these bolts to replace the rusty ones I removed (one with a drill(!)):

Good sized head so no real need for a washer, closest to factory spec I could find.
