I was wondering how easy it would be to add heated seats to my Avant. I guess it would require a different main wiring loom ? Is it feasible or a can of worms ?
Heated Seats

not entirely sure but at the very least you'll need the heaters which are an integral part of the seat base foam, then you'll need to get two switches which i think have a heat control in in then (like a dial). New, these things aint cheap from what i've seen....but then again vagparts might be able to pull off a good £ for you!
I think somewhere I have the pads for the seats which have the heater elements in them - never used them on my car but i bought some old seat covers and the foams came with them too.
No doubt one of the gurus will give you the full low down on the install!

Everything is feasible with enough time and effort (and money
) Retrofitting heated seats would be relatively easy. While in the factory fit version the wiring forms part of the dash loom you could build a new loom to sit side by side with the original wiring.
You would probably be best off the try and find an A80 with heated seats in a breakers yard so you can get the looms which run from the seats to the dash, the switches and control units (and possibly the heater elements from the seats as there not specific to S2s)
From then on it wouldn't be too hard to wire the looms into the appropriate areas. You may find that the wiring is already there for the switches and there aren't that many other wires to connect.
I'll have to consult the current flow diagrams to be more precise but I won't have them back till the weekend.

Heated seats use a separate harness so you don't have to tamper with the original wires
Part numbers for -91 coupe are
Relay harness: 893 971 381 (price estimate 200e)
Switch harness: 893 971 381 C (price estimate 100e)
Switch: 4A0 963 563 B 01C (around 70e each, huh)
Control unit/relay: 443 919 533 A (around 60e each)
Then you need the heater elements but I'd use universal ones.
So with original stuff... expensive!-Comment

This is on my to-do list as well, and it gets higher up the list every time my behind comes into contact with the cold leather of a morning, but thats enough of my private life.....Avant. Stock.Comment

Heated seats are the biz!! they feel lovely! and don't tell your passnegr you have them, turn it on high and see how long before they start to squirm :-)
Oh, I also reckon you can fit the Avants cheaper ones to the coupe with no issues.. they just go between the seat foam and leather material.Comment

80 would be better as the coupe ones are longer. The COupe has very different seats compared to the 80/avant. I reckon they could well fit, but try to stick to 80 if poss!
