Undo the rest of the screws and slice the VDO anti tamper tape, and the instruments should just slide out, leaving you with this......Attached FilesSSComment

Not Yet...Originally posted by 4WheelDrifterHave you removed the Autocheck/Trip Computer unit from the back of the cluster?
I can see some nuts hidden away but I didnt want to end up taking bits off then find I hadnt had to remove them after all
Should it just lift away after all visible screws have been removed??
Great Pics by the way...
THANKS

Just remove the visable screws/nuts as you find them. The Computer should slide out, revealling another couple of screws/nuts. IIRC HTHSSComment

By the way, I did this a few weeks ago, completely cured my problem. Sure enough there was a tiny bit of peeling going on right underneath the body of the needle - a quick scrape with a stanley knife and we were away. Dials have been perfect ever since. It's an easy enough job to do too.Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Removed the autocheck and voila....paint catching at just about every angle on my speedo dial....
Fixed it with my old mate stanley and got a 100% working speedo back!!!!
Got to be the easiest cheapest job I've had on my S2 (satisfaction per ££ value you understand!!!)Comment

I have the same problem as a lot of you seem to have - sticking speedo after ~ 1.5 hrs driving.... And always seems to stick at not entirely legal speeds.....
It is definitely a time based problem (or maybe temperature?) - speedo always works for ~ 1 hr.
Anyone carried out this fix in the Cambridge area able to help me out at all? I'm too scared to do this myself....
Getting away with it at the moment by always having the satnav plugged in...Comment

Can these be installed by an electronic numpty like me? I do need to sort my speedo out but not sure if I can deal with wiringThese a few Plasma Gauges left See this thread
This would certainly sort out your sticking dial problem.

Hi David,
Yeah Its not that difficult. As long as your familiar with a screwdriver and a few other appliances I'm sure you would be fine.
If you PM me your email address ill send you the Fitting guide, then you can see for yourself what is in voled and decide if you'd be up for it.
Cheers.
