Freeing the headliner from sunroof opening.

I am in the process of removing the headliner in my sunroof-equipped C4 avant. I was stumped as to how to release the headliner from the sunroof opening. Then I looked at a spare sedan sunroof that I had. Clips. Ah HA!!

This is how I solved the problem:

There are 12 Item 8 clips attached to the headliner. They clip onto the lip of Item 3 "frame" (available in colors) (shown upside down in this diagram). The clips can be disengaged/released from the Item 3 frame by opening the sunroof fully, standing on the door sill and using a 1" putty knife inserted between the clip and Item 3. Some I gave a quick rap to release them, others I just pushed gently but firmly and that worked too (YMMV).

Caution: If you don't get the putty knife between the clip and the metal opening but just on the clip, you will rip the headliner away from the clip. The one clip that I messed up on (the first one ) can be reattached to the sunroof. It was held to the sunroof by metal tangs that can be rebent.
