    Removing the cassette holder?

    Hey there,

I just scooped up some cup holders for the console between the front seats and am having a devil of a time trying to remove the cassette tape holder. Anyone know the trick?

    Thanks a ton!

I had the cassette holder in my 3B, seem to recall I had to replace the rear section of the centre console to delete it...

On the plus side I sold the console with the cassette holder for £25 which more than covered a replacement.

Cassette holder with short pocket are a solid thing, and it is melted into the center console. You have to have a donor replacement long pocket for deleting the cassette holder. Or just swapping consoles of course; much simpler.

That makes more sense as trying to remove the cassette holder is providing to be quite challenging. Any links on tracking down a replacement console? I'm a LHD 95 RS2.

        Thanks a ton!

At ours it would likely be not that simple to source a console with all quattro features (or holes for button and cigarette lighter) and exact color/shade for late 80 or RS2. I would still consider finding any B3/B4 donor console to get the pocket out of it and swap pockets. B3 consoles cost nothing, the job is simple.

As long as the replacement rear console is the correct colour you can simply cut the hole for diff lock switch out with a hot razor blade. That's what I did with my S2, used the console from my old FWD 2.3 10V Coupe as I had it to hand and it was in good nick.

So any rear B3/4 rear console the correct colour is what you require, though one with the hole for the diff switch saves time and hassle.

Never seen the cassette holder in an RS2 before...

From my research it sounds like the RS2 was really customizable with regards to elements like the cassette holder. For example, I have the mesh dog divider in the rear of the wagon but no interior unlock switch.

I'm going to see what I can track down otherwise I may just take it to a shop that specializes in interiors to cut it out!

              Cheers,
              Sasha

I think I have a centre section with just the pocket from a Quattro with diff lock. If you get stuck let me know and I'll get a shipping cost. Its light but not small!

So not as straight forward as I thought. I however have the one in the second picture where you would just need to make the hole for the diff lock switch. The diff lock switch in the first one is bigger!?
Let me know if its any good for you.
                  Cheers

Thanks Simon. Let me see if I can track down an alternative and I'll get back to you. Thank you again so much.
