spraying and wrapping interior trims experiment

It's been a while since I've posted much. Mostly because of work and ball freezing weather. But also bow because I have frigging pneumonia. Turns out that ignoring a virus and "working through it" isn't always the best idea. My missus insisted on taking me to hospital a couple of nights ago with a 40.3 degree temperature even though I just wanted to stay in bed. Doctor said it was a good thing she did.

So anyway, since I'm stuck in the house right now I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of my experiments. I hated the original wooden trims and always have. every coupe that passed through my hands when I was breaking them received the same "eugh" expression from me. So I figured I had to wrap those trims or paint them. or replace them of course.

I bought some dark brushed metal effect vinyl to experiment with and did one door trim (while I had the door card off anyway), then did the dash insert. They went quite well.

But then I tried to do the air controls surround. Turns out heating the vinyl and stretching it uniformly through a circle, tucking it away on the reverse, is kind of hard. So I ended up with a couple of wrinkles that make it look pretty ****.

So I decided to spray them. I had various rattle cans in my garage so I went with matt black. I must have mixed my lacquers up though because I ended up with more of a gloss finish. I'm not too concerned. Anything is better than the wood.

If I decide that I hate the black I'll repaint them or buy different trims.
    luminous pink anyone?

Thoughts anyone? I'm not totally decided on the alleged brushed metal effect vinyl. Almost looks kind of satin effect or something. Certainly doesn't look like metal anyway.
Oh yeah, I need a new head unit at some point too. I bought that one cheap off ebay an eternity ago so by the time I fitted it I'm sure more than a year had passed. So I discovered there's no facia surround a bit too late to complain.

Looks good from the pictures, a definite improvement over the wood effect I'd say. Bang up to date. Could you clear coat the trims as well or would that not work?

Interesting. I've been thinking of getting a spare set, and get bodyshop to spray them black, sort of piano black effect. I was just cleaning interior, and noticed that all the interior trim is grey rather than back, anyone tried spraying the plastic?

That's not a bad idea actually. I might stick some vinyl on something random and then clear coat it just to see what happens. Could be good... or could be really bad
Let's see. I'll report back. I better not start spraying paint while I have a lung full of fluid. My missus would probably kick my ****

I think if you sand the plastic, use plastic primer and then spray as normal (paint and clear coat) it should be OK. I don't know yet how well my sprayed parts will wear but everything's replaceable so everything's worth a try eh?
