Do the Dash Clocks Peel in UrS6 ?

Am I correct in thinking that it is only S2 and RS2 'white' dash clocks that peel ?

I can't recall seeing any UrS6 clocks peel on the net ?

The reason I ask is that I'd like to risk put 2 watt dash bulbs in my UrS6 dash, but naturally do not want to harm the clocks which are currently perfect.

Thanks for any feedback / experiences.

Not seen any urS6 clocks peeling so it would appear they don't suffer in the same boat as S2 clocks.I think Craig...... Macspring, fitted the bulbs you after into the "The Tub" now owned by "Bruce lee" and no ill affects noticed, but don't quote me.

Same here. My 93 UrS4 is fine but the 94 UrS4 V8 avant has a peeling fuel gauge face.

Back to the bulb issue - I don't think there is much more heat involved going to 2W from 1.2W. I've been told the issue is more about humidity. My V8 avant lived in Japan which I am told is very humid and lots of European cars that lived in Japan before being imported to Canada (under the 15 year rule) suffer from peeling gauge ("clock") faces.

        So I am told.

Ive had S4 ones which have peeled but all the S6's ive got haven't. Maybe after a certain year they changed the process????

My 95 S2 is ok!! what about other late registered S2's????

My old 96 s2 started to peel, but I did try and install slightly more powerful bulbs.

There seemed to be a difference in the construction of the white gauges around 94, i don't know if they changed the design or manufacturer but the later ones seem less prone to peeling. They also appear a darker red colour as most cars had red rubber domes fitted to the illumination bulbs to better match the dash switches which were starting to use LED's.

My clock is peeling quite badly. I think some of the others may be beginning to show signs too.

Are there any replacements available for the S4?

I have both dashes. The UrS4 one has peeled very badly - temp gauge, oil pressure & temperature, fuel gauge. I've swapped it for a UrS6 dash, which has none of these problems.

maybe a clear coat before peeling can be the solution althought i'll not be easy to spay on it

                            Clear laquer

Had the same problem here, but found some remanufactured ones here, from Rusty at K24Racing. My car has never been garaged and not used enough, so the damp gets inside, which I think is the culprit. Not bulb temperature, as the bulbs are quite a distance away from the dials inside the assembly and in any case, in car temps in a hot summer would be much higher.

One thing that might help / delay this might be to use a clear matt laquer on the dials to seal the silk screen layers, but care would be needed to avoid dissolving the screen inks...
