    S2 Gauges in a 4cyl 16v Competition

Anyone done it? Really miss the white dials. Will the rev counter work at all? I guess it will be incorrect though Speedo? As you see just want to know if possible and what mods need doing

    Cheers /Kris

It's a really long time since I did this so I can't remember all the details, I put the info on Audifans, but it looks like that's no more. Anyway, I believe the 5 cyl rev counter works fine on a 4 cyl, I think there's a switch on it. The V6 one is unique, so in my case I took the S2 face off and put it on my V6 rev counter, the scale was the same. I think the turns per mile of the speedometer are different between the 3B and ABY, but an ABY one should read correctly on any B4. The jumper setting on the trip computer and autocheck should be correct and a straight fit. If you don't have one or both of these you can switch the unit over from your old clocks, it's just 4 screws. Hope that answers most your questions, here's my V6q with fully functioning S2 instruments, Auto check, trip computer and ambient temperature gauge, all retro fitted.

I have the S2 dials in my Competition. It's plug n play, 5-pot rev counter works exactly the same as 4-pot, no need to adjust anything.

The steering wheel needed a bit more work. First of all, you need the steering wheel and then the surrounding plastics from late B4s (that have the same steering wheels as early B5s). And you also need the indicator and wiper switches from late B4s, C4s or early B5s (easiest to take from the car you take the wheel from). Everything apart from the switches are plug n play but the switches require a wider steering column so you will need to fabricate something to fill the space. For example, I 3D-printed a little spacer to extend the diameter but before that I used a 2mm thick piece of rubber wrapped around the column which also worked, just wasn't a solution that I would find elegant enough to leave there for good.

              Good luck with the work.
