    Stereo problems

    Recently the stereo in my S2 packed in. It was a motorised facia Kenwood unit and the flexi-ribbon was cracked.

    It's been repaired but now the unit is dead. It tests ok in the shop so it must be a problem with the car. Fuse is ok.

    There are 2 8 pin connectors. One is for the speakers, The other has 4 wires.

    White 12v
    Red/blue clock
    Brown earth
    grey/blue light control

    Am I getting these correct ?

    Any ideas ?

    It appears the white wire is not in the correct position for the ISO connections. Has any one else seen this ?
    Mike

    Yes but not on a kenwood, most radios now wont switch on unless there is 12v to the ignition and 12v power input wire on the ISO.

    Check your getting power to the ignition input to the stereo from the connectors.

      Hi Mike,

      Your partly correct.
      The radio has mostly 4 wires for electrics, don't know the colours for a Kenwood but
      One is continuous 12V+ (white);
      One is ground (brown);
      One is switched 12V (not available in standard Audi connection block);
      One is remote (bleu) used to switch on amplifiers (is NO POWER outlet, just signalwire);
      Mostly there is a fith wire that is used to dim the display if the lighting of the car is turned on,it should be connected to a powersource that switches accordingly (I never use it)

      In the standard Audi ISO-connector mostly all is well except the switched 12V
      I had to switch the switched and continious 12V ones but did that on the radio.

      The switched 12V I always take from the lighting of switches above the radio, that's switched over the ignitionkey, it doesn't take power because it only switches on and off the head unit.

      Watch out in the connector also a speed signal is available for radio's that correct the volume as the speed goes up. DON'T use it its no power wire, just signal!

      Hope this helps, if not let us know
      Do some measuring using the multimeter!
