    removal of aerial base

Right was trying to work out why the car kept fogging up on cold nights, figured it was the usual waterfall through the rear light cluster seal.......however its not *just* that

Seems the recent rains have worked thier way in round the aerial base seal and saturated the roof lining round the rear courtesy light. I touched the roof and water just ran off it...Sh*T SH*T but i cannot remove the aerial base, its stuck fast and managed to twist it and damage the paint too

    HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL LLP

Any ideas how to get the bloody thing off - i have a replacement but no use if the old one wont budge.

    Cheers
    David

I think you remove the rear light and theres a nut holding the base on. I think Jamo did this not so long ago when he replaced his with a Jaws fin.

Sounds like a bit of very careful butchery is required, the thread is some kind of cast metal and will shear if the right force is applied. A mate up top with some big *** grips then cut the wire off so you can get a socket on the bottom should either break it or free it All these aerials do this, came across it a lot when i was in the trade.

FINALLY......managed to get it off, nut was totally knackered. New vectra replacement base (off the bay) for £13 and a new earthing nut and aerial from local Vauxhall dealership £14 and finally i have FM reception again.

This has to be one of the worst jobs I have done on this car, an hour feckin about with a single nut...grrrrrrr

Just the leaking rear light cluster to sort out and that will mean the inside of the car will be finally dry
