    Speaker replacement.

    Hi Guys.

I need some advice on speakers.

first of all, how the hell do you get to the front speakers? Lift the casing ? im guessing this is the way, i hope its not from underneith.

also, I seem to have 4 speakers next to the back seats. looks like 2 tweeters and 2 mid range (back seat non existant door pannel if that makes sense and the tweeters are next to the back shelf). how do I remove these? seems I have to remove the whole side pannel from rear - mid ?

Fronts are easy, just carefully lift the cover and then one phillips head screw and the speaker lifts out. Rears are a bit more involved and means rear quarter pannel off i am afraid!

            Ski,

I have left my rear speaker alone, IMO its not worth the hassle to try and change them. Replace the front speakers with 4" mids and mount tweeters in the small round air vent locations on the top of the dash. Amp these up along with a sub in the boot and power the rear speaker off the head unit and you won't go wrong for sound quality....

            Cheers,

            Steve.

I put a pair of 6.5" speakers in the rear of my old Coupé. It just involved a bit of MDF and GRP, although it was a tight fit.
In a way it was a shame none of my efforts could be seen, but at least they could be heard.

I did mine slightly differently, cut the mounting tabs off the new speakers and apapted them to twist into the lugs and then used some sealed to stop any rattles, been fine like that

I cut the old speakers up keeping just the mounting rim which I screwed into my new 5 1/4's then it mounted in the original fashion.

What are the recommended direct replacements for the front speakers? (gonna leave the rears alone I think). I have heard lots of people talk about Quartz?

Also where is the best place to buy the recommended speakers from.

                    Cheers n

The MB Quart speakers are a good priced replacement for the front speakers if your not going for serious sound and just want to upgrade what you have.

Best place is a guy on ebay called orcasales although he hasn't got any stuff on sale at the moment.
