Fitting ICE into an S2... discretely?

This part of the Forum is quite neglected so I thought I would post this...

The plan is to fit as much ICE into the S2 without it looking like a chav-mobile. Why? Well I want people to get into the car and have no idea what is about to hit them. I want the sound to come from nowhere and also I don't want any of it to be visable so that theiving little chavs don't have a go.

    The kit:

    - 10" MB Quart Sub

    - 4" MB Quart Co-axials (Replacement for the OEMs)

    - 6.5" MB Quart Components

    - 2 x Vibe Black Box I

    - Rockford Fosgate 900 amp (might ditch this for one of the Vibes?)

    - CD Changer (currently loose in the tool tray beneath the floor of the boot )

    - Sony Mini Disc Head Unit (might upgrade to a Becker?)

    The sub:

I'm aiming to keep the spare wheel so I'm looking to build a box for the boot but I'm going to keep it simple and as OEM looking as possible. It should be an MDF construction with carpet.

    The amps:

I'm going to hide these. Not sure where yet but I'm going to hunt through the car for somewhere sneaky.

    The CD Changer:

This will be fixed into the space it currently sits in. I'll probably fit a hard floor in the boot with a fitted cage that drops down into the space at the back.

    The 6.5" Components:

These are going in the rear quarter pannels but will be made to look very dull and as OEM as possible.

I will try to post as many pics of the project depending how I get on.

should work out nicely. there are a few details of sub boxes made by members. I went along the lines of Al C's design but without using fibre glass which has worked out quite nicely/

You need the fosgate for the sub, ditch the Vibe's their o.k but for your setup your money be better spent on 1 decent 4 channel amp say 4x100rms to drive both front and rear.

Dont know if those 4" will fit as the edge on the speakers doesn't look right to fit in the S2. You can get 5.25 to fit in the standard front holes.

If you got the time and materials think about a front door build, Bibby has a sticky thread in this section on front door builds.

The good thing about the Vibes is that they are small and easy to hide. Plus they are cool and cheap!

I've already fitted the 4" MBs and they are sweet! Needed some modding as you pointed out. I have thought about door builds but it means messing with the door cards. I have learned from previous builds that this can be trouble. Just my thoughts...

Jamo, that instal is amazing fancy setting up a sideline making door builds and sub boxes . I want to improve my sound as the standard kit is (By modern standards) very Corsa 1.2. I have fitted some new Sony composites in the dash a while ago and they seem alot better but the rest is standard. I was at a loss as to how i would tackle the rest, i would like to replace the rear quarter panels with something a bit beefier, but understand this is a bit of a mission which i dont mind doing once i have got myself a workable garage--Its too hot outside to tackle this- i would fraz (My British pale blue skin burns in moonlight ). We have loads of car audio places over here so supplies would not be a problem. They can get hold of just about anything, and i have a few bits from my old install from my golf. Some too bulky but some usefull. (Alpine 4 X 80ishRMS Amp-Bridgeable, kenwood 7 X 10 280W Oval speakers).
            Cheers

              Hi there,

Let me start by saying I am a complete novice at ICE, but that along with over 15 years of Audi ownership does qualify me in one area....the OEM look.

The one comment I would make is that your head unit is letting you down. You are doing all that work to hide a decent system and then sticking a brightly coloured kap box in full view of the said Chav's you are hiding the rest from.

I recently had my drivers lock screwdrivered so that the theiving little ******** could have my Pioneer head unit away. I was far more worried about the £600 new door and paint job than the £200 walking head unit.

I would have thought that your suggestion of a Becker would be far better suited to the Audi interior and the OEM look you want......But I am biased as I want one

              Hope it all works

              Cheers n

Definitely gotta 2nd on the OEM look... Get something black with subtle lights in red and it looks great! I just fitted a cheap Sony unit and at night it fits in OEM-like

Can one of the many ICE experts (Fatty or Jamo maybe) please confirm which MB Quart models are the direct replacements for the Coupe OEM units I am guessing: -

Front = MB QUART 108 or 110 (which fits better?)
Rear = MB QUART 113/213 (if using the 213, does the tweeter fit in the OEM tweeter slot or is it better to get the coaxial and remove the OEM tweeter?)

Also, where are the best places to buy the correct items?

                        Cheers n n thanks

I'd like to know more about these MB Quart jobs though I fear for the price of them... Anything else slightly lower spec for less money - ideally for a no hassle fit into OEM positions.

I got the MBs for about £45 a couple of years ago, been meaning to fit them for ages along with some 6.5" door speakers but never got round to it... Can't remember the model but they were as Jamo said.
