    Crap signal from my Radio

Can anyone tel me how the wire for the roof aerial runs throught the car and why i would have two aerial wires in the back of the stereo?

My stereo went bang in December so i went for a Ripspeed DVD player with the screen built in. On fitting i discovered that the idiot that fitted the clifford alarm has used scotchlocks on the wiring behind the dash in to the hazzard lights not good .
I also took the time to solder in a ISO harness to the original wiring as it looked as if the stereo had been wired by a blind person.
Anyway two plugs for the aerial, One nothing no signal, other one signal but comes and goes, some times stereo, other times just white noise. On the second cable there is a suspect black wire......could this be a earth cable if so do i just ground it??

    Please help!!

The suspect black wire on the aeriel lead sounds like your aeriel amp feed should be switched 12v+ IIRC, it earths at the base of the mast on the body. These aeriels are often rubbish as water gets in and kills the signal amp in the base of the mast.

      Hi

I think that the std Audi OEM headunits powered the amplified roof aerials(if you have one), when you removed it you lost the voltage feed, there is a special adaptor that plugs into the aerial lead and a 12v supply to power the aerial amp.

      or here at CAD http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/aeri...6018ae4d2a2869

Your local Car Hifi shop or Halfrauds should have one.

      Hope this helps

That adapter does not apply to the S2 only brand new VAG Cars it's a common mistake made by new S2 owners.

The new VAG cars the aerial +12v and aerial lead are wired together and cannot be seperated without the said adapter.

On the S2 behind the stereo there should be a white wire which is the +12v for the amplified aerial. This should be wired to the new head units auto aerial out ( not remote switch on ) and all should be good as long as the aerial base has not burned out.

Could i not just fit a new aerial base with a normal wire to solve this dilema as i said before a blind person fitted the original upgrade stereo?

The amp is in the aerial base on the roof. A normal aerial will give sh*t reception.

What you'd need to do is remove the rear interior light and use a multimeter and find if the wire to the base of the aerial is get 12v if not you can then trace it back to behind the radio.

The white wire is part of the car loom so should be there (famous last words).

Another way is too buy an inline aerial booster, cost £5-9

There was a tried and test one on the forum but the ebay link is now dead so i can't specifiy the make.
