    Switched Positive...

    Afternoon folks,

    Well I went into Halfrauds the other day (I had vouchers from work, and TBH the guy was very helpful and really knew his stuff and enjoyed his work) so I bought a new headunit which is iPhone ready. While I was at it I got a Parrot BT kit.

    The problem we came across while fitting it was that the red live (switched/Unswitched?) had only 1.3 Volts. Then went to 0.5 later. No idea why, does anyone have any ideas? We just doubled up the yellow for now but this keeps the Parrot on all the time, and I work away for two weeks at a time and dont want a flat battery when i am back! (I will pull the fuse in the meantime if need be)

    Is there a place to take a switched live from the ignition barrel that would cut power when the key is out, or is this a switched negative? (the one that makes the buzzer go if the lights are on).

    Thanks
    Mike

    There's a hefty red wire from the ignition switch which goes to the warning buzzer (relay with 292 on top).
    I used that as a switched 12v+ feed for my Becker headunit.

      Cheers Jase, anyone any idea why I would have 1.3 Volts? That worries me!

        could be the cause of flat batteries if you've ever experienced them?

          Nope, it sat for 1 year without the battery going flat!

            Totally different car but I'm currently sitting in my Astra van sorting out a new head unit...I've had to reverse the red/yellow wires as with the ignition off the stereo was losing total power and resetting itself....once I reversed then (red->yellow) it's working as expected, and only comes on with the ignition but keeps a live 12v to save the memory.

            Red = Ignition
            Yellow = Battery

            Mine must be reversed in the ISO plug or something...

              P.S using a wireless laptop if you were wondering how I'm replying while sitting in my passenger seat.
