Fitting new rear speakers in 1994 Coupe

I've just taken the rear interior panel out of my 1994 Coupe to fit a replacement set of 5 1/2" speakers in their original positions. However, the original Nokia speakers twisted into position on a metal mounting plate per the image . And also one with the speaker laid over the top.
Does anybody know the best way to mount this new speaker before I go hacking about with a drill, jigsaw & mdf??

When I fitted mine I cut down the tabs on the speakers to make them compatible with the twist fitting and put a couple of fittings to lock in position

That was one option for me also. I also thought about removing the clips that hold the metal bracket on, cut some mdf & drill holes in the right place before re-using the clips to hold the mdf in place.
Do you know if these clips can be taken off & used again?
