ok...anyone out there have the rubber 'dish' that the aerial base sits in on the roof? Mine has perished after 12 years and I really need to get a new one. Seems that they are not sold separately tho and i don't want to spend £68 + vat for the aerial base/signal amp, i just want a piece of dumb rubber to cover the hole in the roof where the wires pass through

Any ideas...mines in two pieces currently and i reckon it wont be long until the back seat is wet

    Cheers,

It's a good idea to change the antenna as a whole as it probably improves radio reception. If the rubber seal is old enough to perish the antenna must be so old that it would be wise to change it anyway.

I bought a Vauxhall aerial base (from a corsa I think) and although it didn't have the rubber bit you mention, when it gets tightened down, the base seals onto the roof. It is made of a rubberish/soft plastic material that does the same job.

Get a new aerial when you're at it. One of those with the corkscrew effect running up it. It made a huge difference to the reception I got. And it cost under £30!

          David,

You could make up a gasket from rubber sheet, something like a inner tube from a car or preferably a lorry inner tube or even better a tractor.

GSF sell a suitable ariel for about £30. It's not a five minute job to swap the ariels. The headlining is glued on my car and there is all sorts of trim you have to move to get to it!

I can't be sure this one comes with a separate rubber gasket - or even if it does that if it does it'd fit your aerial...... but it could be worth looking into:

                  http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...dID=&doy=26m10

£4.99 and you'd also end up with a spare mast for when the local chavs decide they need a new one for their lookalike GTi

excellent - thanks Alistair, i'll pop into the new Maplin round the corner from me and see if they stock it.

                    Cheers,
