In my old Coupe I did exactly the same except I used some window/door draft sealant which you can buy a roll of from B&Q to put a seal between the metal of the panel and the speaker, both of which were metal.

It's important if you want good bass that you create an airtight seal between the edge of the speaker and the side panel using sealant, silicon, whatever. If you're keeping the metal adaptor plate that means sealing the metal to the side panel and then sealing your speaker to the metal plate.
i didnt seal anything, and this speakers bass very good.So i think, that all is about the quality of speakers...
No it isn't, this is all about why loudspeakers come in cabinets and not just sitting out on their own. To stop the sound wave from the rear of the speaker cancelling out the soundwave from the front of the speaker you have to mount the speaker in an infinate baffle (sealed cabinet) or a ported design where the rear soundwave is fooled into being constructive not destructive. By sealing the speaker to the panel you are trying to emulate an infinate baffle situation.
LHD_kid showed me his doors builds at ADI and he had made sealed enclosures for the front and rear. Looked really good, but does involve cutting the door cards
On the front doors of experience there.
It is interesting to try to build in behind the rear cards for the subwoofer. Interestingly, the amount of which can receive.
Here's an interesting decision to place the amplifier in this place. I want to put in place the subwoofer if the amount is sufficient.
I guess I had to start a new topic "fitting subwoofers in rear "doorboard"
