    Coupe running gear

A friend has asked me which running gear service manual is best suited for work on a fwd Coupe. There are manuals for fwd A80 92> and the Cabriolet 92>. Are they likely to have the same content or not? If not, which does he use?

    Thanks,
    Nuvo.

The Haynes 80/90 manual covers all the running gear. ...crap manual though.

The Bentley 90/CQ manual covers all the Coupe bits and the 20v engines. ...big telephone directory size book.

Havent seen any others... AFAIK Cab has different rear end so the A80 manual would probobly be better suited.

Thanks Mark, I think he's looking at the erWin site, so A80 is the way to go you reckon? I'll pass it on.

      Cheers,
      Nuvo.

Cabriolet is B4 based as far as the bonnet, front headlamps and panels go. The boot is also similar to a B4 Audi 80, but the suspension is the old FWD Coupe type 85 / 89 with the panhard rod. Exactly the same.

Ohno! conflicting answers, anyone else like to offer their views on this one please?

Thanks Delta, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that the Cabrio running gear is the same as the fwd typ 85/89 Coupes with panhard rod.

To summarise, you believe the Cabrio running gear manual is needed for the job, yes?

What does he want it for, engine info or everything else? What is his car, cab or coupe? Which engine?

For example the bentley manual i have covers >92 Audi 80,90,Coupe. FWD & Quattro, 3A, NG, 7A engines. It does not cover Cabriolet models or V6 engines, so if he had a V6 coupe the bentley would'nt be of much use for example.

If i understand what Sienna said the suspension/running gear is all B4 bits and the same as a coupe/80. But AFAIK the cab never got any 5cyl engines, just 4cyl and 6cyl. So whichever he goes for make sure it covers his engine and eerything else should be ok. ..can anybody confirm?

I would go for the cab which is closer to the Coupe. The 80 is different underneath at the rear.

@mcandmar, his car is a Coupe 2.6 not sure of the code (ABC I think?). He's wanting info on the front/rear suspension and the PA steering box. So that discounts the Bentley in this case. I can confirm that the cab did get a 10v 5cyl >93.

@Mike, It looks like both manuals will be bought as he's already ordered the A80 item. That'll rule out any further uncertainty if anything.

@ Mark: The first of the Audi Cabriolets to reach Britain had the 2,309cc 10V engine, coded NG. These carried the registration prefix J and K.

@ Nuvo: The Cabriolet rear suspension is suitable for the type 85 / 89 Coupe, so the relevant manuals will be fine.
