    Alignment Q /rant

Has anybody here adjusted the camber on there cars? I got a check done today and this is what i got,

    FL 1.16' FR 1.05'
    RL 0.33' RR 1.17'

Front is close enough to leave alone however the Rear right is obviously way off, can anybody tell me if i move the ball joint into the A-arm another 1mm what effect i will have on the camber? i.e. what kind of ratio is it?

The numb nuts in the tracking place couldn’t get it to move at all, that’s after a 20min argument insisting the rear isn’t adjustable, ended up having to show the monkey how to do it

When i had mine down at my mates Stealers all you do is loosen the 4 bolts that bolt the struts and move the wheel until you get the correct camber then tighten back up.

It's easy if it's a laser tracking place.

Yeah but to be fair - the rear track rod ends seize up something shocking and they probably look like a solid link rod to the unfamiliar eye. I'm budgeting for brand new ones before even looking at mine.

The general rule I always remember that for consistent turns you want camber to be the same on each side. For example if you can only get -1 degree on the rear left with adjustment of the strut (or repositioning of the bottom joint) then you should setup the rear right for -1 degree also - even though it is capable of going more negative.

Just had mine done. Demon ****s had a go at it first off, would have rather given the money to a stranger!
Protyre in Bristol did a good job though, i'll get the figures from the print out in the morning (The file is at work) if you're interested? I've had real issues getting mine right too.

@Jamo: Interesting idea, but anytime i had the struts apart i pulled them towards me as far as they would go and then did the nuts up. I was working on the basis of doing it that way would prevent me screwing up the tracking anytime i split the strut as i could reinstall them in the same position with some accuracy. Guess who has Koni adjustables I'll try moving the ball joint first and see how close i can get, at least thats an option if i run out of adjustment

@Russ: If it’s not much hassle i wouldn’t mind seeing your figures, what was your caster angles out of curiosity?

I got 1.05' left and 1.25' right, trying to work out if it could be adjusted out by moving the subframe, i think the difference is too small to ever get it right. I know i'm a perfectionist

            Cheers,

              Hi Mark.

Just looking at the report now and it seems they didn't test for caster angles on this occasion. All it shows is the min & max settings which are o.55' - 1.55' (haven't got a degree symbol?). To be fair i'm not entirely sure what the caster setting is. The camber readings i got were -1.09' right & -1.08' left on the front & -1.00' R & -1.13' L on the rear. I've had issues with the rear of my car recently so those readings, although they look quite different in spec, are more than adequate and barely noticeable. I'm sure i could have got both front and rear spot on but asking them to loosen the subframe etc aswell (it can get V expensive!) was a bit much.
I'm learning to put my own perfectionism at bay though and disregard these minor discrepancies as it isn't good for my state of mind and driving pleasure!!

              HTH.

              Russ.

Thanks Russ, the front on yours is perfect

Castor has me thinking again, the specs say it should be 1.25' factory and i know my car has has been hit on the front left at some stage so something is bent out of shape. State of mind again, god damn it

@Pastues, the correct specs are on S2central, cant seem to link to the page directly, there under Technical, Running Gear, and Alignment specs.

                  Cheers,

                  Mark.
