    Breakpads and Bearings

So, I experienced a very rough feeling when breaking last week... I paid a visit to Kwik Fit who showed me that one of the pads had a defect piece of metal on it... he snapped it off and all is good.

After the next guy 'road tested' it again, he told me I needed to replace the front off-side bearings...
I'm not sure whether to believe him or not. I don't know if what I hear on the motorway is bad bearing noise, or just motorway noise.
My Dad reckons I should jack up the frone side, and if there's a problem I should be able to feel it when manuallly rotating the wheel...

    Any thoughts people?

    Thanks,

    JB

yeah you should.also sway it from side to side on the motorway and you'll hear the worn out bearing get louder when you turn the steering wheel to the left.

Hi i think a bearing on mine has gone. When i rev it quite hard and then back off i get which sounds like a griding sort of noise hard to explain from the o/s/f wheel would this be the bearing to? I also seem to get it at very high speeds and when cornering at quite high speeds but only on left hand bends. cheers for your help (sorry to highjack the thread)

        Ok folks...

So I have a rough kinda noise between 55 and 60 mph... but ONLY between these speeds (at least it's only audible then).
        Could this be my bearings?

If one side of my bearings was faulty, should I expect that one wheel (faulty side) would feel hotter than the other (good bearing sinde) after a long (1 hour) journey at 60-70 mph?

These cars seem to be prone to bearing failure if they get a hard knock.

I bought my car (7K miles on the clock) after it had a NSF accident.

I fitted a new Audi wheel bearing.

Hit a kerb and buckled a wheel. 1 week later noticed a wheel bearing noise.

Replaced bearing, car has 21k miles on clock now and all is well.

May be down to tyres. Swap the rear tyres to the front. I also wouldn't advise going to Kwik Fit
