why not drill the spot welds out of a scrapper and use those mounts

Peter I know about that site but he removed the battery cover and I don't want to do for esthetic purposes. Call me an idiot or poser but...

Ok let me hit you guys with this one. Using the ususal S2 mounts welded to the towers and using a style of bar like JonasR has but with one side pinched a little longer to clear the battery box, do you think it woul work? Would the strutral integrity be compromised because of the longer pinched side?

Cheers Mac. I may have to adjust the design a touch so I dont have to move the battery like people are banmging on about but hey ho that what the cars there for, one nice big long headache.

Battery isnt a problem, just place a few washers betwen the brace and mounts to raise it up a few mm's, will fit nice and snug. Hold on dosent a 3B have the battery there?

Stupid question about battery relocation for you UK folk...
How does your MOT inspection address non factory modifications?

A majority of the Coupe Quattro to Ersatz S2 converters here in the US are moving the battery to the small storage area under the rear hatch floor, just behind the gas tank...
We do this for ease since it requires alot less fabrication than cutting a hole under the rear seat and fabricating a battery box for the stock ABY location....

Right I popped into my local shoppe today and was told there may be a posibility of the old golf Mk2/3 strut brace fitting as it has the same style top mounts and no bolts. Can anyone verify this?

Yes.

And yes, 3B really does have the battery on the left side underneath the strut brace.

@Mcandmar - instead of using washers for spacing, better to make a small plate with more surface area! Don't think there are spacers in the standard application? The bar is different but only insofar as 3B uses round tube and ABY uses square tube.

I think locating the battery in the hatch at the rear is a good idea anyway - anything that redistributes weight further back is a good thing!

I believe Wabdaking done this conversion to his CQ. I saw detailed pictures of it a while ago.

@ Midnight. I am just in the waiting for a few sets of new mounts for me to replicate. They are currently in the post winging their way from the States. As soon as I get them and get a price I will post it on here for all to see. Probably in a new Thread.
