    Hubs and brakes

    Hi Guys,

Tell me if I'm being thick won't you.

If I change the hubs on my CQ20V to the S2 hubs do I need to change the carriers to and will I need to change the calipers??

Obviously the discs will need to be changed to fit the new stud pattern but will my calipers do the job for now until I can get my hands on some monoblocks (after the engine transplant and some money saving time).

Is there anything else I will need to change? Brake lines? wheel bearings?

And don't say wheels 'cos I know that I'm not all

    Cheers

    Aaron,
if you change to S2 hubs, I'd recommend purchasing 4 new wheel bearings because the old ones usually fall apart when you press the old hub out. You'll need rear rotors for an S2 application (B6Q 1.8t also works I reckon). The front discs are specific to the S2 and they are expensive. For only a little bit more, you can purchase 996 calipers, A8 rotors (314x30), and RS2 carriers. This is a pretty much bolt up system with the exception of filing down 4 pins in the calipers 1mm each. You'll also need stainless lines for the P-calipers.
If you chose to keep the standard calipers, then you can purchase S2 rotors and new pads and be done with it. Or you could also carefully redrill your current rotors if they are near new. This can be done at any local machine shop as well. It's safe to do (even with the interfering 4x108 and 5x112 bolt pattern). The rotors are held in place by the torque of each lug bolt compressing the wheels to the hubs....they aren't held in place by the bolt holes.
And no, you don't need new brake lines if you keep the standard calipers because they remain in the same exact position (the discs are identical in size).

    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!

So, If I'm wrong you are allowed to kick me. The CQ20 Front calipers are the same as the S2 Calipers? Yes

If so then all I need is new discs and pads for now? Or am I best just to save up and do the whole shabang in one full flop?

Most folks seem to run 225's on 18"x8" rims
225/40/18 will give you a 1.6% under read on the speed (read 59 @ true 60)

But some have 245's, but I don't know whether that is on 8" or 8.5 rims
245/35/18 will give you a 0.3% under read on the speed (read 59.8 @ true 60)

          Cheers n

IIRC, the CQ has G60 calipers, just like the S2. You have the 15" wheels, so I would venture to guess that you have the same calipers. Anybody care to verify? Danke!

AFAIK - the 20VCQ does indeed have same brake calipers & carriers. It has the 4x108 pattern discs which can be redrilled for the 5x112 application... As has been mentioned.

Renewing the hub bearings is sound advice.

As for wheel sizes you have lots of options - from 205/55R16 on a 7J up to 245/35R18 on an 8J rim. A wheel offset (ET) of 33 approx works well on the 8J rim. I have 225/40R18 on that dimension and its about perfect in terms of wheel placement I reckon.
