    Subframe removal tips.....

Helping a buddy remove his rear subframe and we have run into a dilema with it.
Some of the bolts are seized inside the mounts! One of them even had the head shear off! Is there anything we can do too make this remoavl painless? Don't want to cut off the heads and then go thru the BS of trying to get the rest of the bolt out. Does the subframe rust seize to the chasis? Can we use Liquid Wrench or some other releasing fluid to get the damn thing off?

it does in our neck of the woods (you're in the rust belt like me) i recent'y had to remove the subframe in my corrado and was sh!tting bricks about it because if the nut spins you gotta cut the chassis open to get at them in some places. the cutting isn't so bad it's the welding up after that scares me because VAG uses a wax based rust inhibitor on the inside of all panels and frame members. you know what happens to wax when heated......

i had a mk2 jetta litterally split in two on me while driving as a result of the previous owner welding up the floor near the sill....

but really there ain't much you can do except DO NOT use an impact gun, my mechanic said they tend to spin more readily. if they're gonna spin or break on ya, they are gonna do it for anyone.
