Yes they are different, this is what i managed to find on the net, S2 is an ABY as most 3B's had the servotronic steering. I have an ABY rack for mine but havent had a chance to check the difference in ratio etc.

    7A CQ 20v

    Turns (lock-to-lock): 3.2
    Turning circle (curb-to-curb): 36.4'/11.1m
    Ratio: 16.8:1

    S2 ABY

    Turns (lock-to-lock): ??
    Turning circle (curb-to-curb): 36.4'/11.1m
    Ratio: 14.5:1

Any S2 owners fancy checking how many turns lock to lock you have?

Given the information you already have (same turning circle and the known ratios), I would calculate that the S2 ABY gives 2.76 turns lock-to-lock.

          Look at it like this:

Same turning circle quoted = same lock angle = same rack travel

(Assuming the steering arms are the same length on the struts)

Known ratios of 16.8:1 and 14.5:1

          14.5 / 16.8 = 0.863

          Known turns lock-to-lock for 16.8:1 rack = 3.2

          So:

          3.2 x 0.863 = 2.76
