    fitting alloy top mounts

when fitting the alloy top mounts,do you need to fit the small bearing back on top of the strut or leave it off?As when it is left on their is not enough thread to tighten the strut back up?
    many thanks

ok so the mount fits straight on top of the plate which holds the spring down, and the old bearing/retaining nut are not used???
