    Clunking

Ok, I know there are loads of threads on clunking noises but I just wanted to find out for sure what to check for in my case.

Clunking happens sometimes on full lock, mainly from front left side, mainly while stationary but can happen at low speeds.
Clunking happens sometimes on hard braking mainly from the left side.

I have jacked up the car and can turn the springs, is this right? Only a few cm's either way from the locking position.

Top mounts changed (blue), new wishbones, new ball joints, new ARB droplinks.

What else should i look for to solve this annoying problem.

    Any help appreciated.
    Tim

Not really. Although it was MOT'd less than 3 months ago. Am i just visually checking or are there tests to see if this is the problem?

I'd do a visual check the boots can go at anytime, quick look at inner wheel rim usually where the grease from the cv boot ends up if it's leaking, only takes a few mins under the car to check them out

for what its worth my springs used to move on the perches and sometimes make a 'twang' noise...even after changing them to h&R's they can move a little

Dont know if this will help but I had this problem on my brother's RR-UR when we changed the wishbone bushes.

Turning from lock to lock would get a clunk that was audible and could be felt through the steering.

Turns out the bolts that secure the wishbones need to be torqued with the weight of the car on them - this is not easy to do especially without a pit.

When i put new wishbones on they were torqued (with great difficulty )while the car was on the ground. I am going to double check these bolts though tonight.

Hi Tim, I used to get a clunk at low speeds just before i had my propshaft refurbed. A rally mechanic i know told me to split the cv joints clean them out ( jizer bath if you have acess) and re-grease them. Only did the outer ones. This did the trick. Also if youre front tyres are getting worn I noticed this seemed to affect low speed turning, daft as it sounds!!!
                    Best of british!!
