    Lowering on 245/40/17s?

Who's done this, because Im slightly worried about rubbing! I don't really want to just buy springs though like I did for my previous car, I'd rather get a full coilover kit so as not to make it too crashy! This is the problem at the moment...

Doesn't actually look that bad in the metal, especially when you're looking from normal standing height, but after seeing it fully loaded and the wheels in their arches it made me want it to look like that all the time!

I'm guessing its possible as these wheels and tyres look the same as mine if not bigger...

    Cheers

It may be possible, what is the offset of the wheels? When i had standard brakes and S6 wheels with 245/40 17's I couldnt fit them because they were touching the steering arm.

235/40's or 225/45's should be fine though

My S2 was lowered on the H&R springs and ran perfectly happily on 225/45/17s with no rubbing or clearance issues - I had Mile Miglia Cup 1 reps, don't remember what the offset was I'm afraid.

IIRC Most people run 225 width with lowered cars. However the steering arm issue will always be there lowered, or not so that should not make a difference.

I suspect the arch clearance will be the issue with 245's on lowered suspension.

As you know I am running 245's but at a standard ride height and have never had a touch even after an air bourne hump back bridge jump in Scotland, RAC rally style

            Cheers,

if they are S6 wheels with 35mm offset that is what i have fitted at moment, I had issues with the 245's hitting steering arm, that was with conti sport contact 2's. might be different with other tyres though

at an advantage with coil overs as if it does scrub you can raise it slighly, think rob (GT500) has either 245 or 255 on the front of his RS2 be best to ask if he has any rubbing issues guessin RS2 is slightly lower than an S2 (but i am only guessing)

                  I have 245 35 18s, 8.5x18 et52 with 5mm spacer to clear the steering arm.
I get a very slight rubb on the arch liner screw head. I will give my arch a squeeze to sort this, but not bad at all....

Carn't help with the rear,,(avant is different) but it should be fine. Putting 245 40 17 on my UR, my wife is grinding the rims away on 18s, they fit easy on the UR...

Oh, so I can get some spacers to move me away from the steering arms? Thing is, when I had 4 passengers and a full boot the other day I felt or have seen no effects or rubbing.

The coil-over adjustables would be nice, might just have to save up a bit first though! What am I looking at £6-800 for half decent ones?
