    seized bits

went to the my local euromaster (only coz its over the road from where i work) wanted them to check the alignment of the wheels. Just coz i wanted to check it was all spot on & they gave me the delightful news that they couldnt do it, the bits they needed to do were siezed. Ive read a thread on this before but i couldnt find it, wondered if anyone has any ideas on prices etc....

They did mention going back to audi and getting it done there, i chuckled and said yeah... ok....

i wanted to get some h&r lowering springs fitted, does this mean that i will incur massive costs to be able to get this done?!?!?!

Don't just fit springs to old damper's, there are other components to change also, top mounts etc.
They are probably refering to the track rod adjuster's that are siezed, patience and care can usually free them off but if you are paying someone else to free them off it is usually cheaper to replace with new.

I had this problem when i had my alignment done. They ended up charging for a whole hours labor just to piss about with a blowtorch in the wheel arches... (never again!! )

To free the nuts on the rod ends you need to heat them up.. this can be done using a little blowtorch.. don't get to close to the brake lines though...

BTW - When i bought my S2 it had ben fitted with lowering springs. But the dampers, topmounts and bushes were still standard... Not recommended at all.. if your gonna do it you may as well do it properly
Other forum members also recommend Koni's or Billsteins with standard springs.

        HTH.

        Good luck.

Track rod ends are brand new since Feb this year Audi OEM, the front dampers are Bilstein in his car.

Changed them at the Garage meet and i had copper slipped them up as they were seized the year before.

I reckon they didn't even try!

I agree. They probably didn't even try.
I was told by one of these tyre fitting places that my track rods were siezed, so I went home and undone them easy. They made a right mess of my adjusters though.
Do they know about the tapered locking collars? 'Cause they won't come undone easily if you don't tap those loose.

If the track rod adjusters really are properly siezed, just be glad you've got an ABY. Try taking the steering arms off a 3B, it's not a 5 minute job.

This your old Coup Jamo? bound to be shagged out then

For the record I am kidding

Just had a horrid thought, S2Ian, you're not taking the poor thing to a Fast Fecker type place are you?
Take it somewhere that knows what the car is, even Audi **** these things up. Although I do use my local dealership as they do know how to use the alignment and what cars I give them.
