Well my car is running the tried and tested H&R/Koni Combo,RS2 F&R anti roll bars,Poly bushed everywhere,Ally subframe mounts,RS2 top mounts.
I use it everyday (wallet is trying to recover!) to and from work, mixture of narrow back lanes, fast A roads and recently ive been doing a fair bit of motorway mileage.
Overall im very happy with the set up but it is always going to be a compromise when you lower and stiffen a car over stock - after the Golf its like a Limo in its ride but some will find it very firm - perhaps too firm...
Only pot holes, badly fixed road repairs or lumps of tarmac missing in the road surface seem to catch it out occasionally - other than that it is very competent.
I suppose the fact that my Fiance drives it and doesnt get out and moan about it being uncomfortable is proof enough but then again she knows what my cars are like.
Try before you buy i guess - if this local'ish meet comes off then your welcome to have a go in my set up.

    Pete.

cheers for the offer Pete will hopefully take you up on that , yes my missus never complained about the set up on any of my Golfs either, maybe because the girlies dont have to risk breaking a heal when braking and can just drive round the bends without slowin up ! what brake mods are you running ? you seem to know your stuff. been offered RS2 calipers do they go straight on the avant, if not do you know whats needed ? is your car the laser red one in the avatar ? do you have any bits and bobs you want rid of i might be interested in having off you? Cheers Alan.

I would say that my 3.5 years of driving my S2 with H&Rs/Konis, RS2 FARB/Whiteline RARB with 17" wheels gave a very firm, but exceptionally well handling setup - absoluotely zero roll, fantastic turn in and generally very rewarding to drive indeed. I never found the firmer ride an issue and in fact my other half used to get car sick, but never once felt travel sick in the S2. The H&Rs are firm, and I know some didn't like it and changed back (Jamo, GirlRacer). Others have stuck with stock springs and gone for uprated dampers with 18" wheels - Newsh has done this for example and that's a good compromise.

Either way, get the tried and tested RS2 ARBS on immediately, and make sure all your bushes and the dreaded top mounts are all in good nick. I'm less convinced by the fetish for alloy top mounts and polyurathane bushes all round, to my mind the rubber components in the mounts and bushes are there for a reason (ie. to provide a bit of extra vibrational insulation and a wee bit more suspension compliance), but lots of people here swear by them.

If you want a testimonal of a current proud owner of the above-mentioned suspension set up and what it's like on track as well as on the road, ask Robatron, I'm sure he'd be more than pleased to answer!

I've just bought some FK springs and standard shocks for mine with blue top mounts. Might have to bin the 18's too as they a bit skittish.
