I've just had a rear subframe blasted, zinc primed and poweder coated. It was suggested to me by a few chaps at work that I had is stove enamelled for exactly the reasons you have made . However, I was informed by the painters that the combination of the zinc primer and powder coat was much better than stove enamelling as painting is not as tough as it used to be due to various changes that have been made to it recently to remove harmful chemicals from it.
Just what I was fed by a local painters bu interesting nonetheless. HTH

When I restored the suspension on my MK1 Astra the company that did it painted all the components in zinc primer then 2K black. They advised against powder coating on the basis that suspension takes quite a battering from stones etc and once the powder coating is chipped then corrosion can spread underneath.
Now, with the bike stuff I did, I was advised that powder coating was the way to go, as it is much much harder wearing than paint, and less likely to chip...
I understand what you mean though, but you would stillneed to keep an eye on paint chips too, as the same thing would happen...

I'd powder coat them, wouldnt paint chip much easier as its thinner than powder coat?
We use powder coating at work and it is WAY more durable than wet painting.
Powder coat all the way for me.
A decent powder coater will etch prime etc before coating anyway and IMO you won't get any more corrosion resistance with wet paint.
cheers,
Steve.
