  • Steering hydraulic system, bleed? or no bleed? steering pipes

Hey guys, I am having to have to take off one of my power steering pipes that runs from the powersteering motor to the steering rack.
If I do this, do I have to bleed the system once I put the pipes back?
If so how do I do this please?

(Im taking the pipes off to be rebuilt and then refitted).

    Thank you in advance

I have just read this, and it appears to be easier than suspected, thank god! Haha.. ill post this incase anyone else wishes to see this. From the haynes manual: you steer full lock either side and top up fluid.

As you have discovered, system self bleeds. However, make sure you use the correct mineral hydraulic (green) oil. Good time to change and use new oil.

For sure buddy! Thank you ive had to order a weird tool for the job, as my powersteering unit is seaping from the cross point indentation. I believe its an elora socket of 16mm x 3mm end like a large screw driver. I wish to replace the o ring whilst the pipes are off, so car is sat waiting for this now, but the pipes were a fast job to replace and I got a local hydraulic specialist to remake both pipes for me at a bargain price (£10 for a pipe - including protective cover) - last time it was £80.. dunno why the price difference then.. but still all sorted.. both my golf runaround and the s2 will have had the major jobs completed soon. then I can start living again for awhile lol..

I need to also read the manual more as my adhd wants to not bother as reading is so boring.. and hard to concentrate, but will get there in the end and ive achieved so much so far!! and had lots of fun in both cars...

Hey there! I asked my local motorfactors, but LSG advised me about this part beforehand, so then I asked my local motorfactors afterwards (bennetts) and they ordered this for me.

The Elora socket no 870-11 16x3 size if that helps any. I couldn;t see if Chris put this in the info. Regards Lynn.
