    Annoying Noise

Have developed a slight grumbling vibration from the rear end of the car,

    symptoms:
Full lock left or right setting off from stationary in forwards or reverse i get a grumble vibration for about a second or so from the rear, then once off full lock no noises whatsoever. Its always happened since i got the car. Its hard to describe sounds a bit like diff lock engaged vibration but no where near as harse, and only at sub 5mph is this normal? I spoke to mate who said it was just the rear diff tension under load???

Also does the audi steering wheel have splines Ie Multiple fitments ie 360 individual splines or is there only 1 alignment for the steering wheel to the hub? Reason i ask is its slightly off centre, and i dont want to go through the hassle of removing the airbag to find there is only 1 fittment or that its something more serious. But saying that it could be something more as the wear to the old tyres was unreal. Like new for 3/4 of the rear tyres and then into steel for the last 1/4 on both insides.

    Could these symptoms be connected?

I am hoping that could it be that the wheel has been off for the immobiliser being fitted and its not quite been put on correctly, the rear tyres were overinflated and the vibration is normal well heres hoping

    any help would be appriciated?

    Thanks

    Rob

The wheel can be and should be centred by adjusting the rack, sounds like you could do with a geometry check all round, search on here for four whell alignment threads and someone may have already recommended one near you.

The rumbling as long as it is only faint sounds like what mine does too, has done since i got it and i always assumed it was as your friend says, the diff loading up on lock.

Yeah, it certainly needed a 4 wheel alignment it was way out.
As for the grumble its only at very slow speed only when setting off on full lock
So i will assume my friend is correct, (for once!!)

          but

But yes if you want/need to remove the steering wheel and change its position there is no master spline.
